Why do we celebrate the mimosa in Mandelieu?
Mandelieu's Mimosa Festival is rooted in local tradition and culture, showcasing the region's exceptional floral wealth. The town's privileged geographical position, on the Mediterranean coast and at the foot of the Estérel massif, creates a Mediterranean microclimate that is ideal for mimosa flowering every winter.
But where does this little yellow ball that adorns Mandelieu every winter come from?
In the 19th century, English botany enthusiasts were regulars on the French Riviera, setting up their winter resort here. Enchanted by the region's beauty, they imported the mimosa to embellish their sumptuous homes. Since then, the yellow flower has remained an emblem of the town of Mandelieu, and its inhabitants celebrate it every year!
